LJ BrainTrust: Music Puzzle

I'm trying to think of a song I like. Or rather, a song that each time I hear it on the overhead radio in some restaurant, I comment that I like. drmellow is stumped.

It's a country song (which is part of my problem).

It's by a male vocalist (or group, I can't remember).

I've only heard it two or three times (and never on the radio), which makes me think it's at least a couple of decades old. (But it's not classic country.)

It's relatively slow, not up-tempo.

The line that makes me comment that I like it says something about "stars across..." or "stars over..." some kind of water (a river?) or a southern state (Alabama? Mississippi? Kentucky?). Or maybe it's Alabama that sings it. I know, I'm not being very helpful.

It's not "Stars Fell on Alabama", though the line I like might be some kind of tribute to that song. It's also not "Stars Over Texas" by Tracy Lawrence (which I found while trying to Google this paltry bit of information).

A cookie to anyone who can help me figure this out. It's scrambling my noodle!

Here are some possibilities:

George Strait/Stars on the Water

Confederate Railroad/Queen of Memphis - Includes the line "I saw stars dancing on the water." It was the first one I thought of, but I would consider it more uptempo overall.

If neither of those is it, I will keep looking. I love country music, especially stuff that's newly old (like 80s/90s).

Hi! Thanks for playing the game! I need all the help I can get... Country is the weak spot in my musical knowledge.

I checked out your suggestions on iTunes, thinking, "Oh! Maybe it could be George Strait (whom I've actually seen in concert)!" However, both songs were too up-tempo. The one I'm thinking of has a much more meandering feel. I just wish I could remember something else about it!

Um... Wild guess... The Moon Over Georgia by Shenandoah?

I gave it a listen; I think I've actually heard this song. But it's not the one I'm thinking of. Let me know if you've got any more guesses. I haven't given everyone much to go on!

Try "When the Stars Go Blue." It has been recorded relatively recently by Tim McGraw, but was written by Ryan Adams (who oddly shares a birthday with Bryan Adams).

Ooo, another good suggestion! I'm actually familiar with the Corrs version. I didn't know it was written by Ryan Adams. I also didn't know he shared a birthday with Bryan. It's not the song I'm looking for, but thanks for the trivia!
