City Services

Ah, the glorious grunt of the garbage truck as it collects our debris and hauls it away. It somehow makes my Monday mornings complete.

It also reminds me of one of my favorite Indigo Girls songs, "Deconstruction":

We talked up all night and came to no conclusion
We started a fight that ended in silent confusion
And as we sat stuck, you could hear the trash truck
Making its way through the neighborhood
Picking up the thrown out, different from house to house
We get to decide what we think is no good

We're sculpted from youth, the chipping away makes me weary
And as for the truth, it seems like we just pick a theory
The one that justifies our daily lives
And backs us with quiver and arrows
To protect openings, cause when the warring begins
How quickly the wide open narrows

Into the smallness of
Our deconstruction of love
We thought it was changing, but it never was
It's just the same as it ever was...

There's a thought for your day.

reminds me of...
the evil ego and the vice of pride
is there ever anything else that makes us take our different sides
i wanted everything to feed me
'bout as full as i got was of myself
in the upper eschelons of mediocrity.

Ooo, 10,000 Wars. That's a good one, too. Their poetry just does not get old to me! I can listen to Indigo Girls songs over and over again.

On a side note, I just can't read (or hear) the word "mediocrity" anymore without being reminded of one of my favorite Calvin & Hobbes strips. Calvin is complaining about how hard it is being a perfectionist, and suggests that maybe the solution is to lower his expectations to the point that they are met. Hobbes rolls his eyes and says something like, "So we should strive for mediocrity, huh?"

That strip is probably still pinned to the bulletin board in my old room at my parents' house. Ah, memories.

Does your garbage guy only come on Mondays for regular garbage?

They come on Thursdays over here but I wonder if they come a second day?

Have the best

Both the garbage truck and recycling truck come by our house on Mondays. As far as I know, that's the only day they come. Of course, you're talking to someone who got her information based on when all of her neighbors were putting out their bins, but that's the only day I've ever seen them!
