Newfound Fame

The Doctor is enjoying a performance of "The Wizard Of Oz" tonight, and I recently returned home from my own obligations. I caught up on email and was wondering what to do with my evening, until... I remembered I had a bag of limes in the fridge and a counter full of Mexican beer. Problem solved.

So now I'm kicked back, basking in the afterglow of my newly acquired celebrity status. My short climb to fame began a mere two-and-a half weeks ago, when I wrote and co-starred in a skit advertising the Women's Retreat at church Sunday morning. My portrayal of the nightgown-clad, curlered protagonist garnered me rave reviews after the 8:30 and 11:00 services, and several not-so-subtle suggestions that Mt. Pisgah should institute their own version of the Academy Awards, simply so I could be nominated for one. My personal favorite compliment, a la Joe Oliver: "Greg is really good and everything and I enjoy watching him [perform], but you, young lady, were phenomenal!" (Thanks, Joe!)

My talents were in such high demand after that, that I was engaged as the "town harlot" in a dramatic re-enactment of the scripture this past Sunday at Contemporary Worship, for which I received multiplicitous praise this afternoon while volunteering in the church office. And this evening concluded my week-long run on the drama team (OK, as the drama team) across town at the Moravian Church, where my adoring fans clamored for autographs and the opportunity to work with me (OK, well, not the autographs), and I was asked repeatedly about my professional acting experience (no, I don't have any). One woman even took it upon herself to try and recruit me for community theatre.

All of which reminds me of how I always wanted to be in the Fall Play in high school, but swimming and tennis practice presented endless conflict. I did the Spring Musicals, instead. They were fun. Now where can I go do that as an adult?

Move to MD and join our church. You can be in all the plays with my dad!
