Playing House

Yay! We bought some new guest room furniture over the weekend--the bed and nightstand in this picture. I'm in love with the thistle motif, what with my "acquired" Scottish heritage*. I just spent an afternoon moving three beds around upstairs a couple of months ago, having inherited one from my Aunt Frances, but I might do it again and put the new one in the master bedroom for a while.

I think I would have really enjoyed having a dollhouse as a child. Or maybe even as an adult... It would be a lot less work than moving furniture around in real life.

*I've traced the non-English side of my family tree back to its Scottish roots, but we don't have nearly the assortment of consonants and vowels in our name as "Colquhoun".

I love that bed! I also love rearranging furniture, much to Ronette's chagrin. Which could be a benefit for her while I'm still recuperating.

You should TOTALLY get a dollhouse!!!! Jes and I have ones that are wired for electricity, shingled, painted, furnished, wall papered, and carpeted. All of which we did on our own(with some help from Dad on the electricity). Be warned though: it can be a VERY expensive habit!! I think there's probably over $1000 invested in each of our dollhouses.

And they have this wax stuff so you can put things in place and pose it and then if you want to rearrange, you totally can.

OH MAN!! I want to get another one, now I'm all excited!! Please do this so I can live vicariously through you!!!!

The funny thing is, I have all of the fancy, reproduction furniture kits (unassembled in boxes), miniature accessories, wallpaper, etc. at home in my parents' attic. One of my great aunts used to help add to my collection every birthday and Christmas. Unfortunately, my Dad's design plans for the dollhouse were so elaborate that it never got built (kind of like my model train table, now that I think about it). The wood is all marked off and standing in their garage, if it hasn't been used for something else by now. I asked for that dollhouse until I was about 15, then I gave up.

But that's water under the bridge, as they say. I'm an adult now; I guess if I want a dollhouse or a train table, I can either buy or build them myself. I might just add those projects to my list. Heh. My Mom just asked me the other night if I wanted her to come up for a few weeks this summer and help me work on some window treatments. I should telll her I want to work on my dollhouse, instead. *laughs*

Oh, yeah. I totally need that Victorian one to accommodate all my furniture. That's a neat site!

OK, I think I may not like you because now I want to build a dollhouse and spend loads of money furnishing it. Although, it could make up for my lack of Barbie dreamhouse that I desperately wanted as a kid. Maybe it's not a bad idea. OK, I still like you and I like you more for the greatest suggestion on the face of the earth right now.

I can completely see the addiction.
It would be like making clothes for Barbie. But I could make curtains and bedspreads and upholster little furniture!

Ok, I'm going to take pictures of mine when I get home. To feed all of our addictions. ;)
