NaNoWriMo: Day Two

Daily Word Count: 2005
Total Word Count: 3731

Day Two started out a little sluggish for me; I slept late, ate some breakfast, then caught up with my DVR'd TV shows so I could clean off some disk space and get back in DrMellow's good graces. By 2pm, I still wasn't in much of a writing mood, so I decided to go clothes shopping in the guest room closet for some outfits to wear to the wedding we'll be attending later this month. I had a few things hanging in there with the tags still on, just waiting for the perfect occasion. Mission accomplished, I decided I couldn't stall any longer and set to work.

Around 5:30, DrMellow arrived home form his mandolin lesson and asked if I wanted to go out to dinner. Of course! Yet another way to avoid writing! I think I'm starting to understand this procrastination thing that everyone keeps talking about. That's a good thing; it leaves me almost an entire month to perfect it.

Now I'm going to go watch My Name Is Earl.

You are so LUCKY you don't have to get up early morning! Do you realize how lucky you are?
Procrastination comes when you are not very into doing something... So here is the question - can you just skip it? Sorry, I didn't really read about the writing that you are participating in. Why are you doing it?

I don't usually sleep too late, although I'd frequently like to! But yes, I realize I'm lucky to be able to do that sometimes. ;)

The writing "contest" I'm participating in involves writing a 50,000 word novel in 30 days (Nov. 1-30). The novel doesn't have to be a good novel, it just has to be 50,000 words long. Since really any novel that somebody writes in 30 days is going to pretty much suck, the primary goal of the exercise is to write on a regular basis and abandon your fears about whether what you're writing is good or bad. The point is just to write.

Since I'd love to actually write a book worth publishing one day (at least I think that would be really cool), I figured that this would be a great opportunity to discipline myself to write on a regular basis and work on not being such a perfectionist (that's often my biggest hangup), and who knows? I might actually get some good ideas out of the project!
