Eating Out - Greensboro: Binh Minh

feiheli and I decided to give supper before our BSF class another go this week. Last week's attempt at Indian was tasty, but incredibly slow. Tonight, we settled in for a Vietnamese adventure at Binh Minh. I had not eaten at this particular Vietnamese restaurant before, but it's close to the church, so we decided to give it a shot.

They had a great little dining room--very lush and tropical with lots of skylights--which you would never guess from the unassuming storefront in a tiny strip mall. The crab rangoons were "eh"--a little too doughy for me--but stuffed with more crab and cream cheese than I've ever encountered in crab rangoons before. The pork spring rolls were yummy. But the pho ga! It was the best I've ever had! (Chicken pho is one of the standard menu items by which I like to judge Vietnamese restaurants.) So often it has a relatively tasteless broth that has to be seasoned to death with lemon, basil, bean paste, cilantro, jalapenos and plum sauce. I don't know what spices this had in it (ginger? star anise? cardamom?), but it was marvelous. Just the right thing for my stuffy head and achey neck.

Unfortunately (or fortunately!), they only had one size bowl--huge--so I have an entire containerful left over for lunch tomorrow. And I still have Chinese food left from Saturday night!

mmm--I *love* chicken pho. And I know what you mean about the flavorless broths. There is a place I like that makes the best pho, and the secret is definitely the broth. I may have to eat there tomorrow!
